Paris 2024 Olympic Sailing Test Event, Marseille, France.

Paris 2024

Qualification System

The Olympic Sailing Competition at Paris 2024 will feature ten (10) Events with a total Athlete quota of 330. Both Events and Athlete quota are equally split between men and women and an NOC may enter only one (1) boat per Event.

Athletes have at least three (3) opportunities to qualify their National Olympic Committee (NOC) for an Event in the Olympic Sailing Competition. Each NOC, in coordination with their national sailing federation, will determine their own criteria and timeline for selecting which athletes will represent them in the Events the NOC qualifies.

The first opportunity is the Sailing World Championships, The Hague 2023; the Men’s and Women’s Dinghy 2024 World Championships is next; this is then followed by a qualifier on each of World Sailing’s six (6) continents in each of the ten (10) Events; and the final opportunity is a last chance regatta to be held in 2024 only a few months before the Games.

As is customary, the host nation will be eligible for direct entry in each Event, the IOC’s Tripartite Commission will allocate Universality Places and for the first time, World Sailing Emerging Nations have an additional pathway to qualify for the Olympic Sailing Competition.

More than 250 boats are expected to feature on the start lines of the Paris 2024 Olympic Sailing Competition from an anticipated 65 National Olympic Committees.
